Welcome to the Versant Power – Bangor Hydro District community solar farm update blog. With your membership, you’re saying yes to renewable energy in your neighborhood. Our developers (Novel Energy Solutions) are in the process of constructing multiple gardens at once. Memberships like yours help us grow and bring more savings and support of clean, local energy to your neighborhood.
The three main steps to building a community solar farm:
- Construction started
- Solar panels installed
- Power grid connected
All of these steps need to take place before savings can begin.

Solar energy produced by Join Solar’s farms will provide clean energy to the following communities within Versant Power – Bangor Hydro District area which includes:

- Piscataquis County, Maine
- Washington County, Maine
- Penobscot County, Maine
Construction Updates
February 2023
The Downeast Community Solar Farm is in the early stages of preparing the land to begin the construction process. Our developer has many solar farms in the early stages for the Versant Power – Bangor Hydro District utility.

October 2022
At the Downeast Community Solar Farm our team is currently working on erosion control. This is a key step in any construction project for safety reasons as eroded soil can enter bodies of water. Racking will come next on this project.
